The course will aim to continue the theme in the Aesthetic Dentistry module which provided an overview of the essential requirements in achieving the optimal aesthetic result. The initial module focused on the provision of indirect restorations. This module will focus on the direct composite resin restoration, often considered the most clinically demanding in achieving a predictable long-term aesthetic result.

The importance of isolation, soft tissue management and improving shade recording will also be discussed as will other diagnostic tools, including diagnostic wax-ups. The indications for composite resins will also be discussed as will their application in the management of localised tooth wear. A brief revision of the basic principles of smile design will also be provided.

Various forms of restorative treatment will be examined with the ‘hands-on’ exercises focusing on the provision of anterior direct restorations for the management of the single restoration (incorporating layering techniques) and multiple restorations (restoration of the worn dentition). Composite resin polishing systems will also be demonstrated and available for hands-on assessment.
