Dr John Whitworth PhD (microbiology), BChD, FDS RCSEd, FDS (Rest Dent)RCS

John Whitworth is a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Newcastle University, where he delivers the undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programmes in Endodontology. He has led the endodontic clinical services in Newcastle since 1991.

In 1996 Professor Whitworth was Visiting Associate Professor in Endodontics at the University of Texas, San Antonio and in 2005 he was the recipient of the Dental Defence Union UK dental teacher of the year award.

Professor Whitworth is an active researcher, supervising Masters and Doctorate research students, and has pursued research interests in local anaesthesia, vital pulp therapy, biomaterials science, health economics and standards of care in practice.

He serves the International Endodontic Journal as Deputy Editor in Chief and is the Associate Editor for Review Articles. He is on the Editorial Boards of ‘ENDO: Endodontic Practice Today’ and ‘Endodontic Practice’ and is Endodontic Editor of the ‘Quintessentials of Dentistry’ textbook series. John has published widely in peer-reviewed and professional journals and has edited and contributed to a number of standard textbooks in Endodontology.

He has been privileged to enjoy teaching engagements in Europe, Scandinavia, North America and Australia.
