Manchester Dental Implant Foundation Course

This course meets the General Dental Council's educational criteria for verifiable CPD and
33 hours of verifiable CPD points will be awarded.
Craig qualified BDS in 1986 from Glasgow, and took up his current NHS consultant post at Manchester in 2002. He is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Honorary Professor in Maxillofacial Rehabilitation, Associate Dental Postgraduate Dean for Specialist Training, Director of Education for Manchester Dental Education Centre and Director of the Square Advanced Dental Care Centre.  He has published over 30 refereed papers, written three books and has lectured both nationally and internationally on head and neck cancer and dental implantology. He is the clinical lead for Central Manchester in Oral Rehabilitation of Oral Oncology patients, and was one of the national assessors for the National Cancer visits in 2009. He is chair of the ISFE, and is a MRD Examiner as well as sitting on the Council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is Director of the MSc implant programme at the University of Manchester and is a past President 2009-2010 for the British Society of Prosthodontics (BSSPD). He has won two NHS North West Innovation Awards in 2008 and 2009 and was awarded a MAHSC Chair in June 2014 in the field of Maxillofacial Rehabilitation.

Course Outline

mandec bullet To provide an extensive foundation of evidence based knowledge in the field of dental implants
mandec bullet To provide clinical, practical and theoretical training in the use of dental implants in oral
mandec bullet To provide basic training in implant recognition and specialised training with current implant

On completion of this 5 day course, delegates should have:

mandec bullet The training to provide implant assessment as part of a restorative treatment plan
mandec bullet The knowledge to provide routine implant maintenance and repair
mandec bullet The training to assess and plan restorative superstructures on dental implants
mandec bullet An understanding of potential risks and problems and have a knowledge of how to
  resolve implant problems
mandec bullet The training to plan and be able to provide routine implant maintenance
mandec bullet A basic understanding and clinical training in various implant systems used
